I definitely LOVE caramel. Like a lot. I love caramel in my coffee, ice cream, on waffles…yeah. I figured it was about time I learned how to make my own caramel, plus my birthday was coming up! So I scoured the internet for recipes but didn’t find one that could utilize ingredients that were already in my kitchen.
On a whim I made a recipe loosely based on some proportions I had found online, and viola! I got this super dark and rich caramel sauce that is full of flavor! I also ended up using this caramel sauce to make a frosting for my birthday caramel latte cupcakes (recipe coming soon). Plus did I mention there’s only 3 ingredients and it takes less than 10 minutes?
Dark, rich, and oh so sweet, this caramel sauce is sure to please on any treat! With just 3 ingredients and 10 minutes, it doesn't get much more simple than this.
- ½ cup butter (salted is recommended but unsalted works too)
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- ⅓ cup light cream
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium high heat.
Whisking constantly, add brown sugar and cream to butter until well combined.
Let mixture come to rapid boil. Let boil for no more than 3 minutes whisking constantly.
After 3 minutes, remove from heat and let cool.
Transfer to airtight container and enjoy!
If you would like a less rich flavor to caramel, substitute dark brown sugar for regular or light brown sugar.
Caramel will be runny when warm, but will thicken (a lot) as it cools.
Store in air tight container and refrigerate up to three months.
I hope you enjoyed this delicious and simple caramel recipe! With just 3 ingredients and 10 minutes, this caramel sauce could be yours too. 🙂
